On my way out of Red Rocks this morning, I stopped at a spot on W. Alameda Parkway (there is a sign Fountain Formation) and in the thick scrub I spotted a Slate-colored Fox Sparrow. Later on at the private feeder next to this spot, I had a great look at the Fox Sparrow again.
The location is off the W. Alameda Pkwy entrance to Red Rocks. After you pass the last house on the right hand side of the road (north side), there is a thick brushy area underneath some red cliffs. There is a small sign that reads "Fountain Formation". Just north of this brushy area is a house with bird feeders. I first spotted the Slate-colored Fox Sparrow in the brushy area described above.
In the past we have had Slate-colored Fox Sparrows visit the feeders at the Red Rocks Trading Post, so they must migrate along the foothills and use the Red Rocks area as a stop-over.
