I'm glad that the Bay-breasted has stayed around for a while.  As far as I can tell it is the first for Boulder County since 1988 and, as of today, the latest ever in fall for Colorado.  A strange thing to find outside my office.

Nick Komar is quite right that looking for trees with insect action can be rewarding. A few years ago I was at Malheur NWR in SE Oregon walking along a line of about eight huge willows.  Seven of them were quiet.  The eighth had so many bees and wasps that we had to edge around it carefully.  So we watched the bee tree.  It was stuffed with birds and after a few minutes, out popped an American Redstart, which is rare but annual in eastern Oregon.  Then out popped a Mourning Warbler, which was about a fifth or sixth state record.  Find the bug action and you'll find the bird action.

Please note that there will be a huge meeting at the office Monday and Tuesday and the casual access and ease of parking may not be possible.  Thanks to all of you who came to visit.
