Last Saturday wrapped up a great banding season at Chico with 1291 birds banded of 44 species!

The Wilson's Warbler was the most numerous bird caught at 586! By the end of the season, the Ruby-crowned Kinglet overtook the Wilson's Warbler in quantity per day, though never threatened to overtake seasonal numbers with only 100 new birds. We caught two Cooper's Hawks this season, and one Sharp-shinned Hawk. There were several Curve-billed Thrashers, Red-shafted Flickers, and Western Tanagers, always a treat for everyone at the station! There was also one Northern Waterthrush and a Canyon Towhee.

Our busiest day was on 9/22 with 100 new birds and 11 recaps. The slowest morning was the day before closing with just 3 birds in the last net check.

Our last day banding brought 4 new birds and 5 recaps:

1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet
2 Orange-crowned Warbler
1 Dark-eyed Junco

Thanks to Chico and all our visitors, school groups, and the banding station team for a great season!
