Bird Conservancy Banding Report - Chatfield Station, 5/21/16

Today seemed to mark the beginning of real activity among Yellow Warblers - We banded 6 new, caught 3 from prior years, caught another 6 banded earlier this season. In several instances, we caught a male and female side by side in the net. Our "best bird" of the day was a female American Redstart, a species that we believe breeds at Chatfield but we rarely catch.  Here's the breakdown on the 22 new and 3 returns:

Open daily, weather permitting, through June 2, EXCEPT for May 30. It is almost always better to visit early in the morning. We are opening nets at 6:30, and most days will have birds back at the station by 7:15. There are school groups every weekday, arriving about 9:45. We aim to close by noon most days, earlier if it is very hot, very cold, or very windy.
