Buteo televised during tonight's Rockies game

COBirders,

  I hope at least some of you who are good at Buteo species I.D. saw the nice TV camerawork during the Rockies game on the Root network.  Even though I thought I could readily identify the buteos regularly frequenting our state, this one has me puzzled.  I’m thinking it’s a juvie. Hopefully it was an easy I.D. for others, either TV viewers or fans actually at Coors Field.

Very young Red-tailed Hawk. Prominent breast-band.

 

At one point the announcers were gushing about the hawk, which was 

"ready for its close-up" by perching on their booth.

They forgot to describe an exciting hit by one of the Rockies.

Those hawks nested on one a light pole at Coors Field. 

There's plenty to eat around there: Rock Pigeons all over the place, rats by the river,

and probably rabbits. 

For the first time in memory, a pair of "tails" nested in a tall pine tree right on our block 

in east Denver. Rabbits are a plague here and the raptors are trying to keep them down.

We've previously gone through the rabbits, then foxes, then coyotes cycle and now

it's back to rabbits. They are not so cute when snacking in my flowerbeds.
