John Grant born circa 1751 in Scotland and settled in Bathurst area of New-Brunswick

My mother is a Grant.  I manage the Family Tree DNA account for a male Grant cousin, Kit # IN55551.

John Grant apparently emigrated in 1775 (no idea of date or on which ship) to upper New York, before joining the British Army during the War of Independence.  In 1784 he was in Québec City where he married on 23 March 1784, Ann Walsh (widow of a Mr. Christie).  In 1784, John is in Gaspésie where he had obtained land.  In 1789, he is in Belledune area of New-Brunswick.  In 1800, John Grant settled finally on lots close to Bathurst, NB.

John and Ann had two children, Duncan in 1787 and Mary in 1783.  In circa 1795, John remarried with Anne Thébeau with whom he had an additional 10 children, six males and four females.  Descendants of John Grant are found mostly in northern New-Brunswick and as far away as Wisconsin, USA.

Any help connecting with my John Grant and finding more of his roots.

There are a few additional DNA tests you can do that will confirm which side of the tree you’re on.  That kit is indeed a descendant of one of the early Clan Chiefs.  I would guess either Blairfindy, Ballindalloch or Glenlochy.
