Hello Everyone,

I just wondering is there any dashboard framework which can work with CKAN?

What I want is like https://www.civicdashboards.com/ (I haven't use it yet, but I saw a video on youtube, nice one) :)

And then...
I wondering it can work with external ckan websites or not...
And resulted dashboard can host at other website or not? And any limit? Still don't know yet...

Mainly, what I looking is dashboard framework that can work with CKAN.

With best,
Phyo Kyi

Hi Phyo Kyi,

It is a little rough around the edges, but it works. There is a webpage view for CKAN (http://docs.ckan.org/en/latest/maintaining/data-viewer.html#web-page-view) which can show external websites.

You might fid the site http://extensions.ckan.org/ useful for questions like this.

Best,
Matt

Hi,

we want to use the recline-view plugin for external CSVs (via the resource proxy plugin). Datastore is not an option. Does anyone have experience in configuring the separator character in this scenario? A lot of the external CSVs we want to visualise/preview use a semicolon as the separator, while the recline-view plugin seems to have ‘,’ hard-coded as the separator.

I have seen this discussed on github (https://github.com/ckan/ckan/issues/1296), but the issue was closed with no solution. If anyone has found a way around this problem, we’d love to hear from you! Alternatively, we might also work on adding a configuration option ourselves - in that case, where should this happen? recline-view, resource-proxy or someplace else?

Cheers,
Knud

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the post...
It was really great...

I have some few questions...
I saw it can do single chart and somehow manage dashboard... (I try to find sample, how to manage dashboard, not seen one yet)
When I google at ckan extensions... I found this one also...
http://extensions.ckan.org/extension/dashboard/
Is it work like Tableau? http://www.tableau.com/
I mean first creating multiple single charts (Bar Chart, Pie Chart, and Map Charts) and then link all charts into single dashboard (which can work cross, i mean if you click on bar chart that should effect to other charts also) and produced links to embed at other web hosting...

I trust I need to learn a lot at ckan.... :)

Thanks in advance for your kind reply...

Best,
Phyo Kyi

Dear Phyo Kyi,
The link you sent is about the same extension.

I don't know Tableau well, but yes you create single charts and then arrange them as you like. But no, they are not linked together. The best thing is to install the extension (along with viewhelpers extension - see instructions), create a few single resource views in CKAN and then create a dashboard view to experiment.

All views in CKAN can be embedded; there is an embed link on the view page.

To get a very rough idea of how it looks you can see here:

But it is relying on views that are now no longer working and I had also made some modifications; so it can really only give you a sense of the layout capabilities.

You might also want to check out https://github.com/datacats/ckanext-featuredviews - I can't remember how it arranges multiple featured views by default but you can play with the templating to get what you want, e.g.:

Again you will see that the source data are no longer working, but it gives you the idea of whats possible.

Best,
Matt
