Learning more from CKAN users and contributors

Hi everyone (sorry for the cross post if you're on both lists),

I'd like to learn more about how people on these lists are using CKAN, because you probably have an interesting case study for the CKAN.org website, or a great idea for new or improved CKAN features.

As someone involved in the CKAN Association Steering Group I might be able to help with problems you've experienced. Or, perhaps I can help to promote your open data initiatives via CKAN's social media channels?

I'm always available via email, but with the goal of forming closer connections with CKAN users and contributors I've setup some regular times each week so you can now schedule a time to talk. 

You can go ahead and book any available times via https://calendly.com/steven-decosta/15min for a 15 minute chat. Hopefully you'll find a time that works with your timezone. If not, just let me know where you're located and I'll try and find a time that works for you.

Also - our new website for ckan.org is going to be live very soon. If you are working on a case study to share and want some help, let's talk :)

I will definitely be booking a time slot.

One piece of feedback that I'd like to offer to this channel is that CKAN could really benefit from a Discourse forum, i.e. to replace the 2 listservs. Discourse (discourse.org) is used by several other open source software platforms (e.g central.owncloud.org), and the results speak for themselves. For users who are unlikely to log in to a web-based forum, Discourse's email digest and other email features have them covered.

There is a topic for CKAN on the Open Knowledge Discourse forum that can be used. You'll find it here: https://discuss.okfn.org/c/projects/ckan

The benefit of using that discussion is the exposure with others working around open knowledge topic areas, and the cross over with geographies - allowing people to jump into other interesting discussions.

A fair bit of discussion is held directly within GitHub around issues and pull requests. This is very handy for 'working' discussions around issues and code contributions.

It would be great to see more people using the discussion via the OK forum as it certainly is a better experience for those posting information purely for sharing. Sending to an email list naturally doesn't need for everyone to reply, but a few 'likes' via a forum is a nice acknowledgement for those contributing ideas and suggestions.
