Hello fellow cider lovers,

I have been a cider drinker my whole life, and more recently a natural wine ‘professional’ for the last seven years or so based in Manchester, UK. By professional I mean working behind the bar, selecting, researching, writing about and taking part in wine harvests annually across Europe to be a concrete part of the natural wine community.

Anyway, I am now turning my focus and endeavours toward cider - specifically British and Irish cider. Much like the natural wine industry I feel like the best way to get involved and learn is to help out with a harvest, and so I will do that this year!

My question to you, fellow cider lovers, is if you have any tips, pointers or advice on how to get involved with a natural cider harvest here in the UK - as some day in the nearby future I think this will be the path for me.

Thank you kindly in advance,

Eoghan Neburagho.

You will have to do some legwork. There are two main organisations in the UK for small scale artisan cidermakers, SWECA and TCCPA. Both publish a list of members and you will need to contact each member individually with your CV to see if they are interested in your help this season. Some take “students”, some don’t.. Each will have their own requirements and work in their own way. Most of them are very small family businesses.  Contact details https://www.sweca.org.uk/members https://tccpa.co.uk/members/

Good luck,,

Andrew

A trip to the cider fest at ROW would be a good way of meeting some folk https://rosscider.com/ciderfest/
