Seeking Oldfield scion wood

Hello all,

     I would like to add the Oldfield perry pear to my backyard collection. I have been unable to locate and suppliers for scion wood or trees that have this variety and are able to ship to my location. I love in Oregon in the US.

I am hoping that by posting here I might find someone in Oregon or Washington that might have this variety and who would be willing to part with some scion wood. I would also buy a tree if that is available but prefer scion wood.

If you don’t have any luck un the US you could try this company. https://fastllp.com/ they look after the UK national fruit collection and have supplied me scion wood in the past. I am in the UK, however if there was anywhere in the UK that could ship it to you it would be these people.

Hi Ben,

I'm in Southern Oregon and I have Oldfield I'll be pruning this winter.  I'd be happy to send you scion for the cost of postage or if you want to come down to the cidery, you could pick it up.

I did buy grafted Oldfields on OHxF 87 in 2021 from Richard Hostetter at Idylll Acres in Jefferson.  He may have scion available too, and that might work better if you're in the Willamette Valley.  richard....@idyll-acres.com.  He has grown Oldfields for other growers in the Willamette Valley so there may be an orchard even closer to you.

FYI, Oldfields are susceptible to fireblight.  If you are in an area where fireblight is present, be prepared to control it.

Jeremy, thank you, I did contact Richard at Idyll Acres and he said they did not offer scion wood and would not have perry trees available until 2025. Mailing is a good option for me as I'm all the way up in Newberg. Let me know when and where to send the postage cost. Very much looking forward to adding this to variety to my collection.

Vince, thank you very much for this information. It looks like there is an orchardist in my own state that can provide me with some scion wood.
