Hi!  I'm new to CLAN and I'm using some additional tools to analyze some .chat files. I know you can segment transcripts in CLAN and look at just the part of a transcript contained within @G tags. But is there a way to get the timestamp associated with an audio file for when that GEM segment begins? So for example, I may have...

@G: Conversation
*INV: okay so I know that you've been on the council before right ? •104222_108711•
...
...
@G Task
*INV: now lets start the task. •149879_152156•

I would like to extract just the following information somehow:

@G Conversation: 104222 [that's when this GEM started]

@G Task:   149879 [that's when this GEM started]

Not sure if I'm using the correct terminology but hopefully the question makes sense.

Thanks!
Nichola

Nichola,

There is no way to get result that you want in CLAN at this time. However, it would be easy to add this feature to GEM command if people in charge of CLAN would approve it. If you are using other tools as well, then maybe some other tool can do this job.

Ahhhh okay!  Thank you for the info - I think I decided to do it with a python script, by approximating based on the timing given in the following utterance, like I pretty much had in the example. But it sure would be nice if it was a part of the GEM command :-).

Thanks!
Nichola

Nichola,

The powers above approved this feature, so I have added new option -b to GEM command. New CLAN is on the web.

Here are few commands you can try, some commands assume that your files have speaker *PAR:

gem +sTask +n +b
gem +s* +n +b
gem +s* +n +b +d
gem +s* +n +b +t*PAR +d

gem +sTask +b
gem +s* +b
gem +s* +b +d
gem +s* +b +t*PAR +d
