Hi Brian and Leonid,

When using CHSTRING to make changes, I see that a new file is created for each transcript in which a change was made. (CEX file). Is there a switch which will allow the automatic replacement of the original file (i.e. will simply overwrite it)? This would avoid having to delete duplicate files.
Many thanks,

Hi Cathy,

Yes, you can add +1 to the command and it will replace the original data
file with the new one.

FYI -- If you type CHSTRING in the CLAN Commands window and then hit
"return" you'll see all the switch options, and this one near the bottom of
the list.

Cathy,

CHSTRING does have an option +1 to overwrite original files. But, since CHSTRING changes files sometimes results might be unexpected. If you choose to use +1 option, then make sure that you backup you original files first.

If you use CHSTRING without +1 option, then after you are satisfied that no mistake were created you can use command
"ren -f *.chstr.cex *.cha" to replace original .cha files with files created by CHSTRING.

Leonid.

Thank you Davida and Leonid for your prompt replies - I thought there might be a simple answer. Yes, I should have typed it in the Commands window to see the options instead of just looking at the manual (which obviously can't contain everything).

Many thanks again,
