Hi,
I am about to transcribe videos in CLAN. I got everything in order but can not manage to link the video, I only get audio. When I check with ctrl+L I get the error message "Media file name has to match datafile name". As far I can see they match. What could be the problem?
Regards,
Karin

Karin,

The problem with only getting the audio might be that your video file is too big for your computer to handle. When computer can't play back media correctly it resorts to playing only what it can. It is much easier for computer to play audio and to not keep up with playing video part of the media. Make sure that your media file is compressed enough and is encodes with H.264 format.

The error message that you get when you check with ESC-L is due to datafile's name not matching the media file name listed on @Media header. If you think that they match, then please email to me directly the datafile and will troubleshoot it.

Leonid.

Leonid,

Thank you for your answer.
I also used another device for video recording, a small new zoom video camera. It turned out that it worked just fine to link the video files to CLAN and both audio and video works well during transcription.
BUT, I constantly get the error message "Media file name has to match datafile name.(157)" when I run Check.
I don´t know what I am doing wrong.
I am not sure I can send you the film due to confidentiality reasons.

Regards,
Karin

Karin,

The error message "Media file name has to match datafile name.(157)" means that the media name specified on "@Media:" header tier is not the same as the data filename excluding the extension ".cha". To fix this you need to either change the data filename to match the media filename or you need to change the media filename on "@Media:" header tier along with the actual media filename on hard drive.

Leonid.

Thank you Leonid for your help!
It turned out not being so big of a problem after all, which I am happy for.
Everything seems to be working now and my screen shows Success, no errors found!

Regards,
Karin
