Dear all,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am writing to ask about an issue with the MLU command in the CHILDES Browsable Database.

I have been experiencing the same problem that Prof. Ken Nakatani reported previously. When I try to run the MLU command, I receive the following warning message:

**** WARNING: No file matching "*.cha" was found.

The problem still seems to persist, and I have been unable to calculate MLU using the Browsable Database.

As I use the Browsable Database in my undergraduate classes, I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to resolve this issue or whether there is an alternative way to calculate MLU.

I understand that the CHILDES environment is undergoing changes, and I sincerely appreciate all the work involved in maintaining and improving these resources.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Best regards,
Yasuhito Kido

Hi Yasuhito,

I am sorry to say, but the security module used on Browsable Database fails often and needs to be manually restarted  and reset. Unfortunately, I do not know how to reset it. I am copying this message to the person who is responsible for Browsable Database. He does not subscribe to Chibolts, so someone has to relay error messages to him. I suspect this will not get fixed until Friday our time.

In the meantime may I suggest downloading desktop CLAN from https://dali.talkbank.org/clan/. And you can download data files from https://talkbank.org/childes/access/index.html.

Leonid.

Dear all,

Thank you for fixing the problem with MLU. MLU now works, but the same file-access problem still occurs with KWAL in the Browsable Database.

In childes/Eng-NA/Brown/Adam/, I selected kwal and entered:
+tCHI +swant* +w2 -w2 020304.cha

The output was:
**** WARNING: No file matching "020304.cha" was found.

The file 020304.cha is displayed in the folder, and the same file can now be processed with MLU. Could you please check the KWAL configuration as well?

Yasuhito.

Evidentally, we needed to run AppArmor once again. It is working now. Everytime something changes on the server, we have to run it. We will try to find a better way to get it running.
