Hello,

We are trying to use the +d7 switch with freq to search for items on the %mor and %gra tiers, but get the following error message. Can anyone help with this? We don't know how to fix this error or how to proceed.

*** File "/Users/sreyes/Research$/BILD/BILD Core/Diversity Project/ Participant Transcripts_NBR_MOR  /R01ED004-EN.cha": line 2280.
SELECTED DEPENDENT TIER DOES NOT LINK IN SIZE TO SECOND SELECTED TIER.
THIS MAY EFFECT RESULTS OF THE ANALYSES.

Thank you for your help

Sara,

The simplest way to fix it is to run MOR command on the transcript file again. If this does not work, then get the latest CLAN and the latest MOR grammar and to run MOR command on your transcript file one more time. The +d7 option tries to match items from %mor tier to items on %gra tier and if those two tiers have different number of items, then there will be a mismatch.

if after you get a new CLAN and new MOR grammar and run MOR command on your transcript and you still get the same error message, then please email your transcript file directly to me for further testing.

Leonid.

It's happening a lot when we run check in the lab this week - what leads to mismatches between tiers?

Dear Nan and Sara,

Usually, what causes this is editing the main line after having run MOR/POST/GRASP.  Specifically, you may have either added or removed a word on the main line.

We think we figured out one major reason. If you download files from CHILDES that are already mor-ed, they were done a while back, and your newer CLAN program has trouble. Just re- mor them and all should be well.

Yes, that might happen, if the relevant files had been downloaded perhaps a year ago or so.  However, every month or two, I run the Chatter validator on all the files in TalkBank and that guarantees that current files would not have this problem.

Hello Leonid,

Thank you for your help. We did update CLAN and the MOR grammar yesterday. I tried to run the command again after running the file through MOR again to make sure all the updates applied. I still received the same error message. Attached is a practice file I use to test. We want to find the number of subject nouns including pronouns and lexical verbs.

Error Message: SELECTED DEPENDENT TIER DOES NOT LINK IN SIZE TO SECOND SELECTED TIER.
THIS MAY EFFECT RESULTS OF THE ANALYSES.

Thank you again for your help

Best,

Dear Sara,
The problem is that you had a variety of words that could not be recognized by MOR.  There were things like hot_dog, instead of hotdog and mmhm instead of mhm.  I ran mor +xb Practice.cha to fix all of these and then MOR ran fine.  Result is attached.  Please remember to use mor +xb

Best,

Thanks Brian - we were wondering if that was the issue
We appreciate the clarification -

In this particular case there was a problem with FREQ command with +d7, +sm|* and +sg|* options. It has been fixed and new CLAN is on the web.
