Hello,

We'd like to pull out just the paraphasia plus the target and the paraphasia code, e.g.

"buttle [: bottle] [* p:n]"

Rather than pulling out the entire utterance, which is what KWAL usually does, e.g.

"he reached for the buttle [: bottle] [* p:n] on the shelf"

Is there a way to do this in CLAN? We've read the KWAL usage and can't figure out a way to approach this.
Many thanks.

Hi Brie,

You can try this FREQ command:
freq +s"[\* *]" +d6 *.cha

Hope that helps,
Davida

Hello!

Thank you for the reply. This seems to give me frequency, which is great, but I actually want an excel file that reads out the information, e.g. "buttle [: bottle] [* p:n]" (like what KWAL does) rather than the whole utterance. Does this make sense? Thanks!

Brie

Unfortunately there is nothing in CLAN at this time that will do what you want. KWAL has +d3 option to output only words that were matched but not words associated with codes. This option can easily be expanded for codes [...] to also include words associated with them, but this change would have to be approved by Brian MacWhinney.

Okay, thank you! I'd be very interested in having this code.

Best,

Brie

Brie,

I have made change to KWAL. Try commands "kwal +s"[\* *]" +d31 +d4 *.cha" or "kwal +s"[\* *]" +d31 +d40 *.cha". New CLAN is on the web.
