Hi,

I am a little confused about the +r6 option. In the CLAN guide it says that "FREQ by default includes all retraced materia unless otherwise commanded".  Further it says that to exclude retraced material, the +r6 option is to be used. Later on in the manual it says to add +r6 if you wish to include repetitions/revisions. I am not sure how to interpret this information. What I am looking for is to give the right command for excluding repetitions when running FREQ analysis.

Thankful for feedback,

Best regards,
Karin Edlund

Karin,

The manual is sometime a bit out of step with commands. The best way to see what command does is to run just the command name in "Commands" window and to see what Usage information will tell you. In the case of FREQ all retraces and repetitions and other like [///], [/-] and [/?] are excluded by default.

Leonid.

Hi Leonid,

Thank you for your answer!
Then I guess I do not need to add +r6 if repetitions/retraces are excluded by default when i run FREQ analysis?

Best regards,
Karin

Hi Karin,

The +r6 acts as a toggle switch. It changes the default function of a command to opposite function. The problem with +r6 is that its default function is different from one command to another. Some commands like FREQ exclude repetitions/retraces by default and other commands, like CHIP, include them. So, you need to run command name by itself to see exactly what that command does by default.

In case of FREQ you should not add +r6 if you want to exclude repetitions/retraces. The other thing to consider is that if you are running analyses on %mor tier instead of main speaker tier, then repetitions/retraces are always excluded regardless of use of +r6.

Thanks for clarifying this.  I found three places in the manual where this was not properly described and I have fixed those.
