problems with Coder mode for Mac users

Hello,
I am teaching an undergrad lab class that is learning to use CLAN.  2 students are using Macs and ran into trouble with the coder function.  The issues were:

1) After placing the cursor on the speaker line to be coded and hitting esc-e, CLAN inserted the dependent coding tier (%spa) ABOVE the speaker line instead of below.
-note that the .cut file was accessed appropriately and the codes were appearing at the bottom of the screen and could be inserted by clicking on them, so that part is ok... it is just the placement of the dependent tier going above rather than below the main line.

2) When the students complete their coding entries and type esc-c, they get a message to finish the coding; they can't exit the single line of code even when typing esc-c again. They can't do anything except exit the whole transcript and try again, but same thing happens, so their codes do not get saved.

I do not have a Mac, so I cannot recreate these steps myself, but I did watch them run through the steps they should use, and both students had the same issues arise.  The work around for the assignment was for them to manually type in the codes instead of via coder mode... but this was only doable because there were only 30 code lines to enter in their 2 transcripts.

They both downloaded the CLAN for Macs around Aug 25, so they are using the versions that were posted then.

Thank you for any help,
Michelle

Michelle,

I have fixed the two issues that you have reported. New CLANc is on the web.

If your students get a message "Please finish coding current line first." and they don't know how to proceed or get out of that state, then they can press ESC-e to get out of coders mode and get back to editor mode. The ESC-e or menu "Mode->Coder mode" lets you toggle between those two mode. While in coder mode any direct editing in text window is disabled to make sure that text cursor is not moved accidentally. This is the reason for the error message to finish coding first.

Leonid.
