Hello all,

I am attempting to use CLAN to complete a language sample and am having difficulties with linking the .cha and .mp3 files.  When I press f5 to transcribe the audio sounds broken and would play parts of the audio and pause before playing again.  I tried all the troubleshooting strategies I know (ensuring the most up-to-date CLAN download, uninstall and reinstall CLAN and quicktime, look at my CLAN settings, etc.).  I eventually found out that when I would continually move my cursor after I pressed f5 that it would also me to listen to the audio continuous and create my bullets.  Once I have it bulleted I am able to listen to each line using walker controller, which it occasionally "glitching" and I have to move my cursor to continue the audio per line, OR it plays multiple lines (even if I had just listened to one line successfully).    I checked all of my settings and I'm not sure if there is something that I may be missing.  Hope this makes sense.  I appreciate any and all support with this issue.

Best,

Kayla Gerhold

hi Kayla
have you tried turning the machine off and rebooting?
Also, something in your post made me wonder if the mp3 had glitches in it to begin with.  Have you listened to it, not via CLAN, to make sure it's ok?
Other than that, you've done all I can think of...

Yep. Rebooted several times. I have played the MP3 in QuickTime and windows media player with no issues; I thought that as well. I am able to transcribe fine. Just the initial trouble with the bulleting.

Thanks for your quick response!

Dear Kayla,
Are you using Windows or Mac?  What version of the operating system.  We had some problems with audio playback under the most recent versions of OSX, but they are fixed in the absolutely most current version.  These problems were only on OS X and not Windows.
To understand this better, could you send me a copy of the transcript and audio that causes the problem.  Also, let me make sure that I understand what I have to do to replicate the problem.  I simply press F5 and then, right away, the audio sounds broken.  Is that right?  Or do have have to do something else?

Kayla,

Make sure that your Walker Controller is turned off, i.e. there is no Walker Controller window, otherwise F5 function will not work as you might expect it to, because it serves different purpose in Walker Controller. If that is not the cause of the problem, then please email your MP3 file to me directly. Maybe CLAN's QuickTime API is having problem with that particular media file.

Leonid.
