Stuttering Playback

Hi,

   Recently I noticed a problem when trying to link a Quicktime video file to CLAN to bullet or when using the walker controller to transcribe after bulleting.   The video starts skipping a lot (video and audio) and makes it almost impossible to transcribe.  I've tried downloading new CLAN and new Quicktime.  The video plays just fine when I'm only playing it in Quicktime, not linking it to CLAN, but as soon as it starts linking it starts skipping.  What can I do to fix it?

Tim,

CLAN uses more CPU resources during transcribing and bullet linking process than Quicktime does during simple playback, so testing playback of video media with Quicktime only proves that CLAN will be able to play it too. It does not guarantee that it will play it well. It all depends on the fallowing factors. Is you computer old, how much memory does it have, is your media located on local hard drive and is the media file uses standard H.264 encoding that Quicktime can play without special third party plug-ins? CLAN has problems with some third party encoded media files.

I recently also had the same problem when downloading the latest update onto my PC. Whenever I link it will do two extra bullets in between every utterance if the transcript is being done from scratch. If the transcript was already transcribed, it will place linking bullets on the next two utterances that don't pertain to that part of the audio. I haven't done anything different other than downloading the update.

Bullet linking should work correctly now. new CLAN is on childes web site.
