There are numerous reason why this might not work for you all based on how your computer is configured. If you are using Mac, then please read For Macintosh: section on https://dali.talkbank.org/clan/ web page. If you are using laptop computer, then F2 key might be shared with other functionality and you need to press Function key first or reconfigure your system setup. You might also be missing the right font to display this character. We use Arial Unicode font which is installed with MS Word app.

It is very difficult to guess why F2+/ does't work for you without having more information about your computer system and exactly what is not working. You can also try to select menu "Window->Special Characters" and select character from there.

thank you for your answer
using 'special characters' gives the same result - i get a square instead, it's not a problem with F2 key
i tried to use other special characters and sometimes it gives squares, but certain combinations of special characters are allowed, i.e. if i use F2+{ and then F2+/ i get both symbols correctly, but not when used individually
is there a solution?
thank you

The problem is that the font you have selected in CLAN does not support those characters. You need to install Arial Unicode font. Or see if any other font you have on your computer can display full set of Unicode characters. What computer system are you using?

I installed Arial unicode and it's still the same
the system is 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
again, it can display the symbol only when used together with some other symbols, but never alone

Have you selected Arial Unicode MS font in text editor? I don't understand what do you mean it can display the symbol only when used together with some other symbols, but never alone? Are you talking about other special symbols or any other symbols like letters? Do you see that symbol correctly at some time, but at another time it looks like empty square? What operating system are you using, Mac OS X 10.14 or less, Mac OS X 10.15 or later, Windows PC 10 or later? Is it a localized system for specific country/language? Can you take a screenshot of when the symbol is displayed correctly and when it is not and email it to me?

Please email those screenshots to me directly. my email is spe...@andrew.cmu.edu.
