For Cheironians of a certain age…

I saw this talk at the Clio-Psyché conference in Rio a few days ago, delivered in Portuguese. It is nice to know that Josef is still remembered by some.

Good Day Chris,
I will always remember Yoshka Brozek as a significant contributor to my professional life in psychology, and I considered him a personal friend as well. He introduced me to the joys and rewards of study in the history of psychology.

Best Wishes,
Peter Behrens

He’s tucked away in a little corner of my brain with his peers.

Hi folks,

Brožek is pretty important to the institutionalization of the History of Psychology in Brazil. He has worked pretty close to Regina Helena (UFMG) and Marina Massimi (USP) in the 1990's. If I'm not wrong, the Helena Antipoff's Archives has a Brožek Collection among its material.

Best,
Rodrigo

Yes, what Rodrigo M said, exactly.

JBrozek was my inspiration in international organizing/scholarship. I had a chance to speak with him only once, but it was an important event in my life. As a grad student, I attended my first Cheiron meeting at York University in 1983, hosted by Kurt Danziger. I was actually on my way to Leipzig to do archival research for my dissertation. Brozek and others advised me to attend "Cheiron Europe" in Heidelberg, meeting for the second time, before disappearing behind the Iron Curtain. There I met Peter Behrens, Roger Smith (I think), Irmingard Steubele, on and on.

It worked out for me. Eventually I was able to complete a circle and visit Brazil myself, and Marina and others told me about Brozek's visits. I am trying to plan my third visit there by learning some Portuguese. Of course, Brozek arrived fluent enough to give a talk in their language. I am no Joself Brozek, but I keep trying ...
