New contributor interested in GSoC 2026

Hi everyone,

My name is Kavya and I’m a CS student preparing for GSoC 2026. I recently started exploring Checkstyle since I mainly work with Java and wanted to understand code quality and static analysis tools better.

I’ve been going through the repository and a few issues, but I’m still not completely sure where a new contributor should start. 

Are there any areas or types of issues that are more suitable for first-time contributors?

Also, if anyone has advice on how to prepare for GSoC specifically with Checkstyle, I’d really appreciate it.
