Hi all,

EU Code Week HQ are running a series of virtual hackathons over the coming months in Romania, Italy, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia and Ireland and we are delighted to share details of the Irish hackathon here.

  • When - it's taking place during school hours from 2pm on Monday 26th April to 4pm on Tuesday 27th April
  • What - teams of 6 will work to solve a local challenge which will be announced on the day (call for proposals here).  Then on Tuesday afternoon each team will pitch their ideas to a panel of experts who will choose 10 finalist teams. These 10 teams will progress to a national hackathon which will take place later in the year with 1 team ultimately progressing to a European hackathon.
  • Who - it is open to all students aged 15 to 19 but the EU Code Week team here in Ireland think that this might be a good opportunity for TY students in particular.  Each team will include a variety of roles across coding, design and communication and those responsible for the coding aspect of the challenge must have prior coding experience. Students under 16 will need parental consent to participate.
  • How - the Discord platform will be used for communications throughout the hackathon and experts in coding, developing, and business will be called upon to mentor the students at various points.
Full details on the hackathon can be found at here and teachers can register one or more teams here.

Looking forward to seeing you then.

The top 3 local challenges have just been selected so it's now time to vote for your favourite here !  And there's still time to register your students via the same link 👍
