Hi all,
It’s that time of year again where the focus is on coding activities to celebrate EU Code Week. This year Code Week runs from the 7th to the 22nd of October. We are delighted to see so many activities already pinned to the Code Week Map.
We know that there are lots of coding and computational thinking activities happening in your classrooms over the coming weeks so we would love to see those activities pinned to the Code Week map. Maths Week and Space Week are also taking place around this time, so if there are activities that you are involved in for either of these that also fit in with Code Week, please consider pinning them to the Code Week map too. Coding underpins so much of what we do on a daily basis now so it would be great to represent that in our activities.
Activities can take many forms such as lessons, talks, workshops, and online events and can be plugged or unplugged. Sometimes the simplest of activities can have the most impact! If you are starting out with coding then maybe try out Learning Bits on the EU Code Week website or Hour of Code. If you are already on the coding journey with your class groups then you could try something new in honour of Code Week!
In 2021 Ireland finished in 23rd place with 148 activities. We moved to 12th place in 2022 with 738 activities. So far this year we have 106 activities pinned and are in 14th place. Let’s work together to fly the Irish flag at European level to showcase our coding activities. Please pin your activities here. For anyone who has a lot of activities we have a bulk upload system so please get in touch with us to avail of this feature.
The official launch of EU Code Week takes place on Monday 9th October, You can find out more information about the launch including a link to register here.
If you have any queries please get in touch.

Hi all,
Now that EU Code Week is well and truly in progress, we just want to remind you to continue to post your coding and computational thinking activities to the CodeWeek map. We currently have more than 300 activities posted but there is room for lots more!
An added bonus is that the Oide Technology in Education team have weekly prizes for activities pinned to the EU Code Week Map with the first draw taking place last Friday 13th October. Scoil Phadraig in Westport were the lucky school drawn out of the hat winning a set of Beebots and mats for the school. There will be prize draws this coming Friday (20th) and the following Friday (27th) with prizes suitable for both primary and post primary schools up for grabs!
This week is also Maths Week and with many activities for Maths Week crossing over with coding and Computational Thinking, don’t forget to pin those activities to both the Maths Week and Code Week maps.
As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch
Pam

Hi all,
As EU Code Week officially draws to a close today, we would like to thank you all for your engagement in this year's Code Week. To date more than 500 activities have been pinned to the map for Ireland which is a fantastic achievement. The variety in the activities is so great to see with plugged and unplugged activities featuring across primary, post primary and community groups.
The good news is that it is not too late to pin your activities. Code Week activities can happen outside of the official dates so if you have coding and computational thinking activities planned over the coming weeks please pin them to the map and help us to secure a strong finish on the Scoreboard for Ireland. Last year we finished in 12th place but we would love a top 10 position this year!
The Oide Technology in Education team have their final draw for Code Week this Friday 27th with the results of the draws shared on X (formerly Twitter). The prizes for this week are
Primary: Two prizes on offer - Lego Spike Essential Kits and class set of Microbots.
Post Primary: Two prizes on offer - Class set of Microbits and a class trip to Ericssons.
To be in with a chance to win these prizes all you have to do is pin your activities to the CodeWeek map. The more activities you pin the more chances to win! Don’t forget to tag @CodeWeekIRL if sharing on X.
For companies and organisations who undertake outreach activities with schools and community groups we have a bulk upload system so please get in touch with us to avail of this feature.
