Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has recommendations (or models to avoid) for Chromebooks for classroom use, mainly for Junior Cycle Coding and Digital Media Literacy.

I’m thinking something with a 12"+ screen and 8GB RAM, fairly robust for classroom use, but it doesn’t need a touchscreen or anything fancy.

Ideally I’d like to keep the cost around €470 or less before adding the Chrome Education licence if possible.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Will

Hi Will,

For me… a 2nd-hand Windows/Mac laptop is better than a brand-new Chromebook.

Any device can be turned into a Chromebook using Chrome OS Flex.

As an example, we do Coding / 3D Modelling workshops with a suite of Chromebooks. The oldest one is my wife’s principals old laptops… one is 10 and another is 11 years old.

They are running the newest version of Chrome OS and perfectly suitable for this these tasks.

I’m happy to share my experiences with setting up, deploying and managing these devices if you like - my details are below.

Many thanks!

Chris
