Does anyone have any knowledge of or experience with using FHIR in a mixed Cerner CPM/Win32 environment, or know if FHIR is even supported by either one or both of those platforms?

Thanks,
Thomas

Are you able to use the .NET runtime on there?

Thank you for responding to my question, Mohamed.

I have not yet had an opportunity to explore the target environment first hand, but I will put that on top of my list of things to be determined if access to the .NET runtime will determine whether or not an interface can be built.

Is that the case? And is it only with regard to the Cerner Win32 environment, or to both that and the Cerner CPM environment?

Thanks again for your help.

Thomas

Thomas-

FHIR resources are ultimately writing down to the same db schema that is leverage by both CPM and Win64 application. Thorough testing should be done when implementing FHIR applications with a client, but I would ensure your client is getting the same result in CPM and Win64 applications when FHIR writes are done.

There is at least one extension on FHIR Patient that will not be supported in Win64 applications (patient preferences), and has a Millennium code level dependency. Other than that one extension, the other FHIR fields you are interacting with will work in a mixed CPM/Win64 environment.

Thank you for your reply,  Sean.

If I may ask one last question of everyone:

Since asking my initial question here I've been told by our client that they've been told by Cerner that the Scheduling system is "read only" (which is how they said Cerner put it) and that no data could be written into it -- for example, to update an Appointment as 'Canceled' if/when a Patient called the Practice and either canceled or requested a reschedule.

If this is accurate, then would it be expected that any FHIR support (if it's present) would likely also be "read only" -- in other words, nly support queries and not writes/updates?

I apologize if that's a question that can't be answered other than a guess, but even an educated/informed guess can be helpful.

Thanks,
Thomas

This is something to talk through with the client. This would be a client implementation detail, and should not be conflated with the functionality of the scheduling related FHIR resources.

If the client is saying that their implementation of Cerner scheduling is "read-only", then for this client its probably best to follow suit within FHIR. Again, this is something to work with the specific client.
