Hi everyone,

I am excited for the enthusiasm to make the start of the school year fun for our Seniors!

Dorcas Douglas has agreed to Chair the Parking Space Decorating Evening and Sara Abraham has agreed to Chair the First Day of School Social time.

Please reach out to Dorcas/Sara directly to help make these events fun experiences for our Seniors.  They will be sending out emails on this group to let you know more details as they have them.

I look forward to seeing you all on August 4th!

Go Knights!

Hi all,

Further to Diane’s email about the Senior’s “First Day Food and Photos”, I wanted to send out a few details to everyone about this event and also to ask for volunteers to help at this event.

The event is for seniors only (parents are welcome to attend, if you’re coming to school with your senior that morning but food is only being catered for the seniors). The plan is for seniors to arrive at school on August 5th at 7:00 am – remember, it’s the first day back at school and a lot of parents tend to come very early for drop-off and parking can become a bit hard that day (if parents are accompanying their senior).

Seniors will park in their newly decorated parking spot. A 7:00am start would be best so that you can park and then come to the 3-5 playground area, where we will have set up a breakfast table with donuts and muffins for the seniors to enjoy before starting the day. Seniors will have the chance to grab a bite to eat and socialize a little before we gather together at 7:30 am to take a senior class photograph. We do ask that everyone be at the school and at the 3-5 playground before 7:30 am,  so that we have enough time to get a few pictures before the playground and parking lot around becomes too busy.

The pictures shouldn’t take more than 10-15 minutes and seniors can head into school by 7:45 am.

What we need:

6 parent volunteers for the morning.

  • 2 parents to take the class picture – Kelly Butler who is an absolutely spectacular photographer has kindly agreed to take the class picture - we need one more parent to help Kelly, gather the kids, help them get into position etc. Arrive by 6:45 am to set up and be ready to gather the kids by 7:30 am and take the pictures.

  • 2 parents to help decorate the fence right opposite the senior parking spots – along the 3-5 playground with balloons and maybe a banner welcoming the class of 2021. Creative ideas would be greatly appreciated to make this as welcoming and pretty as possible for our seniors. This does not need to be done on the morning of the 5th. It can easily be done at home and then brought to school on the evening of the 4th of August, when there will be many helping hands gathered at school for the senior class dinner. In fact, it would probably be best to finish all the decorating while the seniors are busy decorating their parking spots. Another idea would be to borrow some of the decorations and banners made for the dinner the previous night so that we can re-purpose these items.

  • 2 parents to set up (thank you Kimberly for kindly volunteering to help in this role) and serve muffins and donuts and then take down the table and cleanup once the kids have gone into school. Volunteers could arrive at 6:30 am, so we can set up the tables and put the food out for the kids to grab and go.

We are also looking for parents to contribute to the cost of the small breakfast treat we are providing the seniors that morning. The plan is to have individual cups of 5 munchkins for each senior and individually wrapped muffins. I have priced this out taking into account 57 students (so 60 of each) and we would need about $200 to cover this cost. If you can contribute to this amount, please VENMO the money directly to me. VENMO ID - Jacob Thomas (@jacob_11). If this is not the time or right opportunity for you to contribute to the cost of the treat, please do not worry about it at all and please send your senior to grab a treat that morning.

Because we need to ensure that there are minimal number of hands in contact with any food items, we have decided against beverages for the morning. The kids all have water bottles and we would like to avoid offering juice and coffee that morning.

Some guidelines:

  • We are asking that all volunteers wear masks and all adults present please remind students to socially distance during the gathering. There will be many parents driving in to the parking lot to drop-off that morning and it will help families in our community to see the senior class adhering to the rules of social distancing on the very first day back at school.

  • Parents who are manning the food table will need to wear gloves (will be provided) and a mask.

  • All food items will come individually wrapped and we will provide napkins as well.

Thank you so much for helping out with this event. We’re really looking forward to a wonderful welcome to our senior class as they start this new year. I'm going to try and get a sign-up sheet made for this event so parents can see where there is a need for help and sign up if possible.

Blessings,

Sara

So sorry - I just realized there's a typo in my email with regard to the VENMO ID. Jacob's VENMO is @jacobt_11

Apologies for those of you who tried and couldn't find his account. I just forgot the t in there:)

Thanks - Sara

Hi Sara,

Thank you for arranging all of this!  I went onto Venmo to send you money to help cover costs but when I put the venmo id of: @jacob_11 into venmo, the only result that comes up is Jacob Knudson and his id actually has a 4 behind the last 1 on the id.  Can you send the venmo id again?  Or do you have another way to send you money?

Thanks so much!

Jenny
