Hi Joshua,

These looks like great resources and I appreciate your mentioning that these OER are accessible. However, I took a look to try to find an accessibility statement but I didn't find one. Many institutions like the community college I work at have been making sure all textbooks are accessible in order to meet the Title II of the ADA deadline -- traditional publishers should have VPATs and accessibility statements and documentation, so I am urging all OER creators to do the same. It would be great to fill out a VPAT for OER textbooks but this template might be helpful and more relevant. I hope the following resource helps and I hope more people will have a transparent accessibility statement in their OER textbooks.

Charity,

I worked with a team from RSCC who received a government grant and attended the training/conference provided for our faculty and full-time employee working to design some OER courses. Any grant money provided by the government require all recipients of the grant to make all OER materials ADA compliant.

Namaste,

Susan

All,
I appreciate your feedback on this vital topic. I am including the response to Rich Hershman. We strive for continuous improvement in our work and love the support and guidance for CCCOER. Please send me more feedback for improvement as you notice items. Thank you.

"Rich,
Thank you for the feedback. I will add the following to all of our textbooks. We are self-hosted, so I have installed both of the accessibility checkers below in our Pressbooks instance. Sa11y states that it conforms to WCAG 2.1 Level AA and A11y has the same claim. So, I would say yes, we are at WCAG Version 2.1, Level AA or higher based on my use of the tools and anything outside the scope that I would potentially notice, which honestly isn't much. I greatly value your feedback.

"Sa11y was created with a simple goal of helping all content editors create accessible content for people with disabilities. Sa11y itself was designed to be accessible for people with disabilities too. The maintainers of Sa11y reference the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as its guiding principle, and aims to conform to Level AA."

"The A11Y Project strives to be Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 (WCAG)  AA compliant. The WCAG is an open standard for determining accessibility. AA compliance is considered good support for a website geared towards a global audience."
