Hello,
I've looked for this on the list but have not found it.
I need to service the stanchions as they are loose, even when freshly tightened.
I've thought about
1. tapping up a size and using a larger bolt, but i'm unsure how that might work out.
2. Inserting an HDPE core and drilling/tapping through it (but then would have a standing water problem inside the stanchion)
Appreciate any insight.
Thanks,
CJV

Hi Cesar,
The stanchion bases seem to be bigger than the SS tubing.  Each stanchion is held into the socket by a 1/4" x 20 bolt.  I recommend using mylar sheets to shim them where needed.  A larger bolt will not solve the problem.

Hi Cesar,
I’m in the process of replacing all of my stanchions and half the bases due to Hurricane Ian damage. I think the original stanchions are 25 mm set in  1” bases. They all had shims around the bases. I’ve tapped my new 1” stanchions to receive the outside 1/4-20 machine screw.

Back to this topic:
Last season I wrapped mylar around the stanchion ends and tapped them in with a rubber mallet. They held OK, and came out OK, except one, which spent the winter outside the cover.
I'm back to the plastic inserts, except this time using PVC molding cut in cylinders using a hole saw, which leaves a hole for drainage. I plan to drill through to the inboard side of the ABS bases and self-tap the screws there.
Hoping that's all it takes.

Updated approach: Since the PVC inserts don't really help, and they are a pain to align and use I am trying stainless steel foil tape next.
But since I'm traveling and then getting my knee replaced, I'll likely just defer any more tweaking to next season...
