I just joined this group 3 hours ago after having owned a C&C 34+ since Oct 2009.  It's embarrassing that it took so long for me to find this community, I know.

I would love to see photos of your boats and hear about where you sail and what you love most about these fantastic sailboats.

Please share!

Hi, welcome to the forum! We sail Lake Lanier near Atlanta GA.

We've owned Take Five (1990 34+) since July of 2013, we started racing shortly  thereafter and still race on Wednesday nights and weekend regattas throughout the year. We also sail on weekends for fun and usually log about 1,200 miles per year altogether. It helps that we sail all year long in Georgia.

Welcome.

We sail Kraken the Wine out of Windsor Ontario on LakeSt Clair. We also cruise up to the North Channel (Little Current) area. Purchased in 2019 and have enjoyed beer can racing and cruising.

Welcome to the group. It's great to have a hive mind to learn from and share with. I've been privileged to meet a few of the folks here in real life. I sail Blue Heaven on Puget Sound and the Salish Sea. I love the style and well thought out design elements of the 34+. I love the versatility of being able to race with a team of friends, single-hand easily enough, and enjoy short-handed cruising comfortably.

For the West coasters, I'll drop a plug for the C&C West Coast Rendezvous (https://www.cncrdv.org/) to be held 8-10 August in Telegraph Harbour. It's a hoot to see so many C&Cs and get to learn more about the company and family of boats we have opted into.

Sail safe,

Richard Servance

Francois nailed it:  Prepare to tack.  Set autopilot on.  Go forward and move traveller.  Return to helm and push two buttons to autotack.  Release windward genoa sheet.  Bring in leeward genoa sheet.  If it is blowing hard, I let the autopilot steer until I have the genoa sheeted in.  In moderate air, I release the autopilot earlier and sheet with one hand and steer with the other.  In light air, I hand steer throughout.
I actually can do it faster and better myself than when I have crew who generally don't have a sense of what should happen and when.  Dave

While our boats are a bit different, it's nice to see another C&C 34/36 in Annapolis.  I was sad to read that you have listed her.  I wish you the best in finding a good caregiver.

Matt,

Stargazer XX is a lovely boat.  That coastline looks spectacular. Here is a photo of Chantey.  We sail primarily in the Chesapeake Bay out of Annapolis, MD. Its winged keel makes it perfect for gunkholing in the hundreds of rivers and creeks in Maryland and Virginia.

All the best,

Jay

Hi Jay
Lovely Boat and thanks for sharing your picture. I noticed the jib sheets run  through your upper rail.   Can you advise the  size is  your jib. My jib is 138 and I never thought of using the upper  rail.

Thanks
Joe

Yes back in the 60’s 70’s 80’s and 90’s there must have been fifteen to twenty builders in the Great Lakes. I could name around ten and some were short lived. C&C and Mirage were the top two I think.

The photo is of our old 135.  It is not the best lead placement off the wind, it should be further forward.  As you can see our leach is quite open in the photo but I was solo and too lazy to set up a barberhauler.  However, upwind I like this lead setup for this sail.  Give it a try, every sail is unique, so you never know.
