Dear cBioPortal Team,

I am currently writing my master’s thesis using data obtained from cBioPortal and have a question regarding the interpretation of survival variables for the AML dataset (Firehose Legacy). My specific question is whether you may be able to clarify the difference between "N/A" and "0"  months for survival? Could you clarify whether a value of 0 indicated death at time of diagnosis or whether it reflects missing data? What is the distinction between N/A and 0 survival in months?

Any guidance you could provide is greatly appreciated, as this distinction is important for my survival analysis.

Thank you for your time!

Kind regards,

Ines Boga

Hi Ines,

This is a good question - we would not use a “0” to indicate missing data, so I would assume this indicates death at time of diagnosis.

It is possible of course that the data were incorrectly captured by TCGA. But since the data set is now around 15 years old, it is difficult to go back to the original source and find out more.

I hope this helps.
NIki.
