Fwd: Own boat showing up on MFD and "beeping" issues

Hi all:

I just installed the Raymarine AIS700. I have: 

• The RAY73 VHF with DSC and external GPS. The mmsi is coded in correctly. The vhf is set with "integrated gps" ON and "External GPS" SELECTED.
• The RayAIS700 with external GNSS. antennae and unit coded with correct mmsi. All green lights and good signals when configured with AISPRO2.
• The axiom pro 9S with lighthouse 4 with up to date software.
• Two I70s displays.
• The AIS700 is connected on the nmea200 seatalk network and connected to the RAY73using the supplied splitter.

The transponder transmits. BUT..... 

• my own boat is showing up as a target (see attached MFD pic. of Isabella). Any ideas as to the fault? And how to fix?

• Although all boats around me are anchored and stationary, the i70s pick tell me i or they are on a collision course. And alarms go off.  Boat is on a finger berth (not swinging). The "ignore stationary targets" has been selected although gps indicates a speed of 0.1kn.  
• 
  
• Is there a way to suppress or silence the alarm triggered by these stationary boats?  
• Why do the i70s alarms go off but the mfd doesn't 
• 
  

With the ray73 having both internal and external gps and the AIS700 having a gps and gnss, could the problems be with the multiple gps units? 

I cleared the cache and tried reset but no change.  

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

According to Google the Ray73 has a built in AIS receiver so it may be picking up the AIS transmission from the AIS 700 and putting that info on the network. Try shutting off the AIS receiver on the VHF and see if that helps.

Thanks, bill.Yes, I tried that.I tried shutting off the AIS completely. But when I do that all boats disappear off the multifunction display.

 So when you shut off AIS on just the VHF you still have the problem?

Hi Bill 

When i power off the vhf, there is no ais targets whatsoever  showing on the MFD.

When I shut off AIS on the VHF, I can't remember... I will check again tomorrow  

I think the installer must have spliced the transponder into the same power cable as the vhf (not isolated) but not sure if this would result in my boat showing up as a target.

Your suggestion that the transmitted signal from my boat is triggering the reception seem plausible, but if the boat name and ais on the vhf (tx) and the transponder (rx) are identical,  then I thought the system recognizes the boats own ais and does not display it. Somehow, that is not the case.

Will check again tomorrow.

You need to turn AIS detection off on the VHF Radio and let the transponder be the unit that detects incoming ais signals. 

If you want to turn off the AIS receiver entirely on your Raymarine Ray73 VHF:

1. Press MENU.
2. Select Set-up.
3. Select AIS.
4. Select Off.

When I do this, it clears all AIS info on the MFD even tho I can still see the AIS700 on the seatalk network operating correctly.

I will try again powering down everything and clearing the cache.

The MFD should see your transponder and receive the AIS information from the transponder.

Not at the boat right now to check but on the MFD check the data sources and see if AIS transponder shows up and is selected.

 I recently had a weird problem where the MFD and i70s were showing bogus depth readings. Turned out that both the i70s and the MFD had chosen the ITC-5 device (which converts analog wind info to NMEA) as the depth device instead of the Airmar device. Have a ticket open at Raymarine about this since the ITC-5 should not be sending bogus depth readings over the network. My iPad running Navionics picks up both the bogus ones and the correct ones.
