Can anyone send me pictures of their diesel heater setup. I just ordered a webasto kit, and am going to try to run most of it myself.

Thanks in advance!

I don’t have anything to offer but I am interested which unit you decided to go with. If I went with one of the air units I was thinking of plumbing it into the existing air ducts from the electric A/C-heat unit.

More to come, but here is the kit that I’m getting Bill.

Hoping to do most of it by myself. Also looking for hoots of vent locations, and existing duct runs. So if you have any photos of your air duct that would be great too.

Thank you Jon for the info. Next time I’m at the boat I’ll take some pictures of the existing A/C duct work. I have this one picture from the aft starboard storage area where the fuel fill line and fuel vent line are located. The smaller gray duct feeds the aft cabin. The larger gray duct squeezes between the hull and the starboard side of the aft cabin sleeping area under the shelf just below the starboard porthole. The duct goes through the aft cabin closet then behind the stove and just above those storage cubby-holes in the starboard salon behind the seat back cushions.  There is a vent on the shelf on the starboard side above the seat back cushions. The duct continues forward through the bulkhead and into the forward cabin closet and a vent on the forward side of the closet wall.

Bill

The viewpoint of this picture is I’m facing forward and slightly right with my back to the transom inside the starboard aft storage locker. The blue vent line is 3” diameter. The gray ducts go back to the transom, then over to the port side where they connect to the A/C unit mounted on the back wall of the aft cabin, port side.

Thanks Bill!

This was a big help. I was able to get most of my 4” duct ran through that same space. I tried to go down the port side instead but the aft tank sits right in that passageway so there is no room for ducting.

So I ran mine down the stbd side similar to the ducting you showed. There’s a nice access in the aft cabin closet for routing, and then in the furthest aft storage compartment (cubby).

That’s as far as I’ve gotten so far. Looks like if I run all they way to the fwd berth, I will need to cut some holes through the sides of the middle cubby.

Here’s some pictures for reference:

Stbd passageway as seen from the aft cabin closet access looking aft. Small section of 4” duct shown for reference.

Stbd passageway from aft cabin access looking fwd.

Stbd passageway from (aft) cubby looking aft. Partially run duct visible.

Now I need a vent for behind the settee. I believe this is similar to what came from the factory:

Thanks for everyone’s help, I’ll keep you updated on the status as I go.

On either a heater or AC system, can anyone tel me if they have a return grill, and if so, where’s it’s located?

On the A/C I have and from what I’ve heard is the standard procedure, the A/C unit is mounted in the transom storage area under the propane tank. It is accessed from the aft cabin. If you go into the aft cabin, the return is on the back wall of the cabin on the port side. If you take the grill off then you have access to the whole A/C unit. Here’s a pic from the sales website for my boat. It’s not very high res though but you can see the grill in the far corner on the back wall.

Great info Bill, thanks so much!

I’ve seen that black area on pictures before and always wondered what that was. I figured it was an access but never saw it clear enough to know it was a grill.

You guys are all great, thanks again!

It is located on the back wall of the aft cabin towards the port side

I am still struggling with where to locate my webasto diesel heater. Just wanted to check again if anyone has that for their boat.

Hi Jon,
I'm still thinking about a heater install and was wondering how yours worked out. Where did you end up putting the heater itself? Also, where did you buy the kit?

Thanks,
Bill

It’s uncanny that you wrote Bill. I started it last December, I’m 80 something percent done, and took a break over summer. I’m sleeping on the boat tonight with the plan of hitting it hard tomorrow. Will document and send you pictures

Heater install 2.0 is going good. I have a Webasto Air Top 40. I mounted mine, slightly at an angle, on the bulkhead in the aft port locker area. I bought the kit from Sure Marine here in Seattle.

At this point, all I have left is to deal and clamp the exhaust line, and prime the fuel. Hoping to have a startup soon.

I have many more pictures, but here is a sample. Let me know if you want any other specific details

Thanks for posting this. If I decide to install this I’ll have to find another place to put it as the A/C heat pump unit is approx. where you mounted it. I could use the board where the original charger was mounted as I’ve removed it. I’ll have to get down in there and poke around. I may also try to find some motorized dampers that I can use to select which unit is feeding the already existing air ducts. Don’t want to run new ducts just for the heater.
