Dear Nalini, Dear Colleagues:

B-lated New Year Greetings to you all.

Thank you for your emails, Nalini.

Just got off a call with Julia at the APRCEM Secretariat. The call for nomination is for all the Constituencies and Subregional Focal Points. The Pacific Disability Forum is still a current Focal Point for the Asia Pacific Disability Constituency. As you know, this role hasn't been easy on PDF for the past years. But, we have worked hard with the support of members and partners to organize and establish it well with its own mandates. Such mandates are Terms of Reference for the Disability Constituency, Role of the Focal Point, and other relevant documents secured in the PDF Secretariat. Should any organization or anyone feel that PDF should discontinue its role, then please your suggestions and comments are welcome here. The deadline for the call is tomorrow, Feb 16.

The APRCEM Secretariat is copied here if you have any questions, concerns, or clarifications on this Call for Nominations and Election Process.

Thank you and I hope this clears out all the confusion so far.

Stay safe everyone.

Kind regards,

Villaney

Dear Colleagues,

Hope you are all doing well.

Just saw an email from Rina (APRECM) on Focal Point elections. I am a bit confused. Will PDF be continuing in its role as focal point, or do we have to nominate another representative?

Since the APFSD is coming up this might be important for our continued engagement.

The deadline is in two days. So perhaps we can discuss.

best regards,

Nalini

Dear Villaney,

Thank you very much for this clarification. It is good to know that PDF plans to continue in the role of focal point.

Look forward to beginning preparations for the APFSD engagement.

Would be great if we could meet as a larger constituency group to discuss the same and begin planning.

best regards,

Nalini

Greetings!

Yes it seems difficult to manage things, especially the last two years COVID-19 made a huge impact.
Still we were able to have our voice in APFSD last time by online participation.
Since the start I have been suggesting that the disability constituency should have regular meetings 2-3 times a year.
This way more ideas and resources may come and we can keep our constituency more active and live.

As Nalini suggested

I am looking forward to our constituency meeting.
and if I can be of any help it will be my pleasure.

Dear Colleagues:

Thank you, Nalini, for your reply.

The Focal Point will serve two terms, that is two years per term. PDF can be renominated for the role of Focal Point as we served our first term. Please note the following information. Despite PDF will or not being selected, it's the election committee to review the application criteria and make the final decision. It is of essence to be mindful about what is it for us if we join in this Constituency and be the Focal Point? Are we making an impact and difference in the lives of those persons with disabilities who are at the grassroots level and still left behind?

Our wider group meeting will be convened after the election results are shared. However, I will call a special meeting this week or soon with the main core groups for a catch-up, reflection, and planning for future Disability Constituency activities and events.

You can only nominate or self-nominate and eventually vote within your main constituency and sub-regional listed in the database. For example, if you are listed as farmers, you can only nominate a farmer constituency focal point, and NOT women focal point.

Note: Focal Point organisations cannot serve for more than two consecutive terms.

Information on Nominations

  • Submit your nominations in this Google form:

    https://forms.gle/aCyDJZGMJ2pktovj9

  • Deadline: Wednesday, 16 February 2022 . Late and/or incomplete registration will not be accepted. Applications received can be viewed HERE

  • A nominee will only be represented once in the responses spreadsheet. If a candidate is nominated more than once, the first nomination will be retained and all others removed. Candidates will be reviewed on how well they meet the criteria, not on how many people nominate them.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Best,

Villaney
