I have selected common name in the settings, however that doesn't seem to apply to the library when using the "identify selected" tool.  I would like to set this up with volunteers, however, scientific names are going to be much more challenging for this to be user friendly for them.  Is there something I am missing?

Hi Michel,

This should work as you expect. Could you ensure that the common name for each of the species have been set?

Yes, as an example, I have selected coyote from the search list so it has both the scientific and common name, however when I click on Identify. It still fails to provide common name option.  I have restarted both the program and the computer, neither of which has fixed the issue...?

Hi Michel,

Thanks for sending those screenshots through.  I've not been able to reproduce this behaviour.

Could you please let me know the Camelot, browser and OS version and could you also add another species and confirm the problem also applies to that?

I am also having this problem. Would love to have common name as a drop down option for "Identify selected," but all I see are the scientific names.

Does anyone else have this issue with common names or ideas on how to get them to work as intended in the Settings? I've tried reinstalling Camelot, including on another computer, but the problem seems to persist.

Hi Michel,

This should work as you expect, and I have just tested to confirm that I
see the correct behaviour under Camelot 1.6.16.

The one caveat is that the common name is optional. If it is not
present, the scientific name will be used instead.

Overall the expected process is to make this work as you expect is:

1. Ensure the name style is set to "Common"
2. If the settings were changed, stop and then start Camelot again to
have the change take effect.
3. Under the "Species" menu for your survey, ensure the species have the
"Common" name set.

Hope that helps,
