Hi Dominique

Often, I set an alarm for an event. Sometimes, I change my mind later, and delete the alarm (edit event / click on the red "negative" button / save). However, for the past few weeks, I've noticed that that action no longer removes the alarm. I do the foregoing, the app immediately syncs - but the alarm remains in the event.

If I add a second alarm (different time), save & sync - it works (both alarms are retained after a sync). If I then delete both alarms, save, and sync, the second alarm is removed, but the original remains.

Can you reproduce this?

Hello,

I may be wrong, but I believe Dominique said this was a bug in the Google API. I have been hit by the same issue. In order to remove an alarm which won't go away, I do it from Google Agenda.

Hi,

no, I cannot reproduce this. I can correctly remove reminders from my directly synced Google calendars this way.

Are you syncing directly with Google Calendar or are you syncing with something else? What kind of accounts are checked in CalenGoo under "Settings > Accounts"?

Kind regards

Dominique

Hello Dominique,

Of course your question is addressed to ScotProf, but since I have the same issues, I'll give my settings too:
- Android account (hidden) unchecked
- Google account (displayed) checked
All sync checkboxes are checked, except upon closing app.
Fast synchronization is checked.

I am not quite sure, but I have a feeling that this does not happen on all events: some "work", some don't, but I don't know in advance if an event will "work", I just try in Calengoo and if it fails I do it from Google.

Regards,

Frederic

Hello,

so both of you use the direct sync method. Maybe there is something wrong with it. You said it sometimes works and sometimes it does not work. When it does not work, can you just try it again and will it work then? Or does it not work for a certain type of event, e.g. all-day events or recurring events?

Kind regards

Dominique

Hello Dominique,

I will try to find if I can find some common characteristic. I have tried unsuccessfully to uncheck the alarm again. Also, I will try to set it back in Calengoo after clearing it in Google to see if the bug happens both ways.

I've tested all my devices, and have the same experience on all of them.

For me, no matter how often I repeat the reminder deletion (in Calengoo), it is immediately restored.

I haven't identified any specific type of event - it seems to impact all of them.

I've also removed Calengoo access to my Google account, and then re-activated it: no change.

Best wishes

Do you have default reminders set for the affected calendars on http://calendar.google.com ?

My Google settings (translated back from French):
- Notification Settings
- - Notifications on the desktop (still not sure this is a good idea, but this is probably not related to the bug)
- - Display pending notifications: 1 minute before event
- - Notification sounds on
- - Warn me only if I answered Yes or Maybe
In all of my Agendas:
- Event related notifications
- - no default notification defined

Here are the results of my tests:
2023-12-23:
  1. EV 1 Recurring: del alarm from single event OK
  2. EV 2 Normal: del alarm KO
  3. EV 3 Floating: del alarm KO
  4. EV 4 Floating: add alarm OK
  5. EV 1 Recurring: add back 1 alarm OK
  6. EV 1 Recurring: del alarm 1 event and following OK
2023-12-24, all following operations on the same (floating) event:
  1. del alarm KO
  2. del alarm and edit event name KO
  3. del alarm and restore event name KO
  4. del alarm and clear description OK
  5. add alarm OK
  6. del alarm and add description KO
  7. del alarm and clear description KO (although it worked in 4. !)
  8. del alarm and add description KO

Note that the problem seems to occur when clearing the alarm, never when adding it.

Hi,

I have created a video to show what I see when I try it myself:

Did you try it in the same way or did you do something else? As you can see the reminder was removed in the end. However, it might take a few seconds or minutes for Google Calendar to show that the reminder was removed.

Kind regards

Dominique

Hi,

I was able to reproduce it now. It seems to be completely impossible to remove "0 minute pop-up" reminders. But I can still successfully remove e.g. "5 minute pop-up" reminders.

Can you confirm that? Does the same happen to you?

It seems to be a bug in Google Calendar. I send an empty reminder list to Google Calendar but then I still get the "0 minute pop-up" reminder back. 🤔

And when I add multiple reminders and then remove all of them, only the "0 minute pop-up" remains.

Kind regards

Dominique

Hi,

I have reported it to Google now:

But I don't know when or if they will fix it. The only workaround I can think of would be to delete the event in that situation and create a new event. However, this won't work when the event has attendees (they would get a cancellation email and a new invitation email) or when the event is in a shared calendar (in shared calendars everyone has their own reminders so when deleting and recreating the event, the reminders of the people you have shared the calendar with would vanish). 😕

Kind regards

Dominique

Ah! So this is the explanation. Indeed, my default reminder delay is set to 0. We have a workaround, we can now only wait and see if Google will consider this important enough to be fixed.
