Here's an example of a Separated ("Protected Bike Lane") Bikeway shown in Washington D.C., maybe safer from motor vehicle crashes but unsafe and ineffective for normal bicycle commute speeds. Dumbing down, narrowing, requiring zigzag slaloming, etc. isn't improving bicycling but some advocates claim this kind of facility does encourage some new riders. IMO this reduces the effectiveness of using a bicycle for transportation; they just keep us out of the way of motorists.

Wow! How truly efficient and obviously a relaxing experience....

NOT. The epitome of car dominated design to literally put bicyclists in our place.

The Car/Cyclist duality is based in humans' natural tribalism. It's a social problem not solvable by Engineers.
And there has never been a social resolution solved by Segregation. Has there?
Segregation reinforces tribal differences that lead to disparity; separate but equal drinking fountains, schools, entire civic districts in our recent history prove that. Slavery itself is based on "othering" the oppressed.

How many ebikes can you force into this stupid design? Can you think of a better way to diminish the efficiency ebikes bring to Americans who choose to use them legally?

Thanks, Jim, for sharing the wonderfulness of our nation's captial.
