Greeting All..........

I was driving from north Fresno to the Tower District yesterday and had a very pleasant experience - a brand new class 4 bikeway on Wishon Ave.

Its so new I don't think the paint was dry yet.

Here are some photos - note how they have treated the driveway, bus and refuse disposal situations.

Way to go Fresno !!!!!!!!!!

What a BIG waste of white traffic paint!

John,

I assume being a residential street the speed limit here is 25 mph. So bicyclists would have the same 25 mph speed limit in the cycle track.

What do you (others) think a safe maximum bicycling speed is on this facility, given the frequent driveways and intersections and the conflicts that are generated by having the bicyclists riding along the curb with poor sight lines, especially when the parking lane is occupied?

Just curious.

Gallon per gallon, a door zone buffered bike lane adjacent to traffic and not hidden behind parked vehicles would be more than overkill on a 25 mph residential - a series of sharrows, placed left of the door zone would use even less paint and produce fewer ‘manufactured conflicts’.

Some BAdvocate sold Fresno on cycle tracks.  I hope a before and after use survey shows if this brings out any more ‘curious but concerned’ cyclist or reduced crashes.

The cult needs to be checked with hard data.

Hi Bill and all others........

I re-drove the route today specifically to check out the posted speed limit which I found was 35 and not 25 - so the city must considers that route as a quasi-arterial or residential-arterial justifying a higher speed limit.

Oops - I failed to mention that I also attached a photo showing the 35 MPH signs - one on each side of the street.

Sorry for the omission.

So it's a one-way bikeway on a one-way street? What do they have planned for contraflow bike traffic?

Hi Mike

Excellent point - and I don't have an answer except to say the next street over is also a one-way street going north. Wishon goes south.
