The City of Santa Cruz is planning to remove the westbound bike lane on Delaware Ave and replace it with a two-way "protected bikeway" on the opposite side of the street. Additionally, two unsignalized, relatively low traffic intersections are to be redesigned as "protected intersections."

To the extent possible, inform the City that people using bicycles are not required to stay in a cycle track. There are many reasons to avoid being stuck in one.
Will Sharrows be placed in adjacent lanes?

They think they are designing for bicycles. They are NOT.
The users overwhelmingly will be Ebikes moving at a Consistent Speed of 20 mph and above, and they are creating congestion at every intersection with their bogus "protection." Collision between bikes are inevitable
And cyclists opting out of this cycle trap will be taking space in further narrowed lanes with motorists who will hate this and resent bicyclists all the more.
Cities should be spending money promoting harmony between user groups, not division
