The usual policy is no political discussion.

But this may be big enough to warrant an exception.

Plus the fact that nobody is posting anything else.

Anyone want it?

Liberals will continue to vote liberal.
Conservatives will continue to vote conservative.
Does anyone expect anything else to happen?

Don,

No.  Humans value self-interest over justice, truth, right/wrong, and objective good.  There is no point in fighting this.  There is, however, a point in figuring out that self-interest is in accordance with those things if there is an afterlife, and if it is just.  Such an afterlife may exist.  If so, all of life is morally justified.  If not, life would be better off not existing, and we are all fools for trying to sustain it.

But concerning the impeachment...

I'm still anti-Trump.  BUT if his defense against the charge that his Ukraine deal was to protect America from corruption by getting corruption evidence against the Bidens (however flimsy), then I think it is reasonable for the Republicans to demand to subpoena witnesses against the Bidens in exchange for witnesses against Trump.

Cary,

Libs and Cons don't even agree about what "self interest" is.
Eg. "Cons" tend to believe "Truth" is objective, while "Libs" tend to believe that its culturally determined.
Their impeachment votes will continue to reflect the views of their political parties.
Mostly Atheists vs. YECs.
I do agree that there is no point in arguing this.
Regarding Trump, the only prize is the 2020 election.
The "trials" have known outcomes.
The election is slightly less certain.

Don,

I agree that Libs and Cons don't agree on what "self interest" is; and I don't care.  If you disagree with me on what it is, I want to know about it.

We agree on the rest.

Cary,
I'm probably closest to Peggy Noonan:
http://peggynoonan.com/
Except that I would prefer interviewing everyone.
It won't change the votes. Just anger the players.

Don,

I agree with Noonan's top article, except that I would like Trump removed, first because he is a general asshole who deserves punishment.  2nd, I think he will get us into an unnecessary war.  3rd, his acquittal sets a precedent for future presidents to abuse power without consequences, which could end in dictatorship.

[F]irst because he is a general asshole who deserves punishment.

I'm not certain about this one, but i'm guessing that was one of the reason the voters sent him to Washington: to give the politicians trouble ("You're Fired!," kind of like sending "The Terminator" to Sacramento).

2nd, I think he will get us into an unnecessary war.

Unfortunately, guessing what he might do in the future is not grounds to initiate impeachment. In fact, Viet Nam was not even enough to initiate impeachment. (The only explanation for how that war was handled was that Robert McNamara  had never as much as been in a fist fight.)

3rd, his acquittal sets a precedent for future presidents to abuse power without consequences.

Conviction requires a 2/3 majority of the Senate, which is why it has never happened. That precedent has already been well established.

Don,

1a.  The voters didn't send Trump to Washington; the electoral college did.

1b. We're talking about 2 different kinds of asshole - relative vs. absolute.  The kind of asshole who gives someone trouble is an asshole relative to those to whom he gives trouble.  An absolute asshole is a person who habitually does immoral things.

1,2,3. I know none of my reasons are sufficient to get a president removed.  They are only the main reasons why I would like Trump removed.

3. The precedent you speak of is not the precedent I spoke of.
