Namaste,

The Araṇyakāṇḍa (Book of the Forest)
It is hoped that images of folios from the Araṇyakāṇḍa currently held at the Rajasthan Oriental Research Institute, Jodhpur, may be included in a subsequent phase.

Does anyone know why Rajasthan Oriental Research Institute has not scanned it's part of the MSS? Anyone from there here around? The Mewar Ramayana lacks the Araṇyakāṇḍa and it's so sad.

M.

Sir,

As far as I know, there is no Sanskrit scholar at RORI in Jodhpur or in any of their seven branches in Rajasthan.

The last Sanskrit scholars I knew were Shri Sharma at Jodhpur and Shri Dharmadhikari at Alwar who arranged to supply to me Xerox.copies of their rare Mss.of Gargasamhita, which I passed on to Prof.R.N.Iyengar in 2015 and who is editing this Text with his team of scholars. The Alwar authorities refused to supply copies to non Sanskrit scholars,so,Prof.Iyengar requested me to
use my credit to get the xeroxcopy.I did it in good faith.

Kind regards.

Prof.Siddharth Y.Wakankar.

Is there a person, who is in charge of the MSS?

So that means they remain to be closed to the world outside India and there is no chance to see the Mewar Ramayana part they own,

Thanks,

Sir,

You may write to the Director, RORI, Rajendra Marg, Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

I understand that now the affairs are managed by the Rajasthan Administrative Service Staff, who may not be knowing anything about this treasure.

Just try your hand at that.

Best of luck in your search and research.

Ramayana J.P. Lotsy Sumeddha V. Ojha Published by Roli Press

Beautifully illustrated with paintings from manuscripts prepared for Rana Jagat Singh of Mewar (reg. 1628–52),this is the first time that paintings from different locations have been put together in one volume. In the hands of mid-seventeenth century artists the story of Ram has been turned artistically into a sophisticated expression of Rajput ideals and society.

Almost all The major books Published by Rajasthan Oriental Research Institute are available here
The Arsha Ramayana Published by  Rajasthan Oriental Research Institute is not as comprehensive and exhaustive as the book I have mentioned. They may have illustrated manuscripts which are unpublished one can see their descriptive catalogs and find out more

RORI Jodhpur Head office has a lot of illustrated manuscripts, which are kept underground and hardly anyone is allowed to enter it.

I was fortunate to visit it in 2005 February and see some of the most exclusively beautiful illustrated and coloured manuscripts, miniature paintings etc. in the mss.department.It is a very rich and varied collection, but, very difficult to see unless you have some special kind of approach.

I could see their rich collections in Udaipur, Alwar and Jaipur branches too in 1982 after the AIOC Session.

I was singularly fortunate to have the rare darshan of this treasure.

Best luck to my friends to have a look at this rich heritage.
