Request for meaning and explanation - bhasma-dharana-vidhih

Hari Om, Pranams to all.

I came across this shloka in an old devatarchana handbook. I request your help to trace the source of this shloka and its understanding.

श्राद्धे यज्ञे जपे होमे वैश्वदेवे सुरार्चने |

भस्मत्रिपुंड्र्यैः पूतात्मा मृत्युं याति मानवः  || 

What is वैश्वदेवे referring to?

Where can I get more information about tripundra?

meaning vaishvadeva is daily nitya karma for married people

they have to do this. it involves pancha maha yajnas and some other stuff.

meaning: those who wear bhasma dharana during shraaddha, yajna....vaishvadeva.... being purified by 3pundra: bhasma: wins over death 

it is not yaati. but jayati.

this is the right version.

Actually in Smarta tradition bhasma dharana is not done during shraaddha but after the shraaddha proper rituals are over.

In South Indian tradition,  during श्राद्ध कालम् bhasma dharanam is not generally observed

Thanks to all of you for the lesson. The mistake was mine, as I was transcribing from a chant in a lecture. Apologies.

I found the two references, the purana-s, very very helpful.

Also, I recall that when I did the sraddha for my father, i did not wear bhasma at the start. towards the end, I apply chandan and the priest applies the white rice prasadam on the Chandan.
