This popular verse is recited at the beginning of the Vishnu Sahasra Nama in many sampradayas.  If the original source of this verse is known, kindly share the details.

भूः पादौ यस्य नाभिर्वियदसुरनिलश्चन्द्रसूर्यौ च नेत्रे
कर्णावाशाः शिरो द्यौर्मुखमपि दहनो यस्य वास्तेयमब्धिः ।
अन्तःस्थं यस्य विश्वं सुरनरखगगोभोगिगन्धर्वदैत्यैः
चित्रं रंरम्यते तं त्रिभुवनवपुषं विष्णुमीशं नमामि ॥ २॥

Thanks Yougananda ji, the above was familiar to me.  Since the verse is widely recited along with the VSN stotram, my quest to find its itihasa or purana source.

The dhyana shloka of Vishnu sahastranaam also contains the above sloka.

Please note that this is differently chanted in South India and North India.

In north India also there is a variation and what I am referring to is as given in Allahabad Edition.
