This message was shared in KSU mitra mandali group:

Professor Pandit M A Lakshmi Tatachar Melkote is NO MORE.

Dr.M.A. Lakshmi Tatachar was a rare combination of traditional scholarship with modern research acumen.
He was Prof. of Sanskrit in the Bangalore University. Later he founded the academy of Sanskrit Research in Melkote and nurtured it so well that it has become an international centre for Sanskrit studies.
He has published many books and also research articles.
He was mainly instrumental in collecting numerous manuscripts and preserving them in Melkote. He held many prestigious positions like the Chairman, Centre for literary Research, Indian Institute of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine (IIAIM). He was an embodiment of traditional knowledge and wisdom with a great vision for utility of IKS in current age.

His contributions are incredible. Om Shantih. 🙏🙏🙏

What a shock. Prof. Lakshmitatachar was a very close friend. My husband and i have visited him a couple of times and he made it a point to take us to the famous temple at Melkote. Such a great scholar in both Tamil and Sanskrit. It is  a great loss to the world of both Tamil and Sanskrit scholarship.

A great scholar indeed. Very rarely we come across such Great Scholars deeply rooted in the traditional Knowledge systems at the same time very much conversant with modern technology.

I have seen his software on Shābdabodha in 1993 (or maybe in 1994), during a conference organised by him. This software would generate the shaabdabodha for a given Sanskrit sentence.

He was very open-minded and of helping nature. When I approached him in 2002-03 informing him about my plan to work on Sanskrit computational linguistics, he immediately provided me with his word generation software and asked his technical staff to provide me all the necessary help so that I could install it on my machine.

Thus under the contributor's list, of Samsaadhanii,  the Academy of Sanskrit Research, Melkote goes at the top.

It is a great loss to the field of Sanskrit Studies.

Prof. Tatachar ji was always seen with a smiling face assuring his knowledge that could be imparted to any one with quest. A geat human being.

He was one of the committee members who had recommended to start a Department in Sanskrit at UoH, with an agenda. We'd couple of interactions with him, even later. Great loss to Sanskrit scholarship.

Shocking. Great loss. Excellent human being. Dedicated to preservation of knowledge. Lost a good friend. May the Almighty grant strength to his family members to bear this loss. May the soul rest in peace.
