In Malayalam, parihāsam means ridicule, or making fun of someone or something. Parihāsam cannot be an innocent joke, it is always at the expense of someone or something. For joke, the word used in Malayalam is tamāśa which is from Hindi/Urdu tamāśā. A more native term is nērampōkkŭ which literally means time pass (nēram + pōkkŭ). In Sanskritized Malayalam the word for joke is narmam (നർമ്മം नर्मम्)

Ideally, attractively produced, with a Hindi translation (it's to be a present). But if you know of a good collection without translation, please mention this too, since my next job is going to be finding a physical copy, and that could well be the biggest joke of them all.--Thank you,Irene

For Joke: Samskruth term
How about - 'vainodikii' ( vak, samvaadah, kathanam, kathaa :: a statement, expression, narrative, story - which produces mirth)
Basis: Bharata's Natya shaastra is said to be technically an instrument for ' Vinoda-Karanam loke'- an act to alleviate, lighten the mood, reduce the seriousness, ease the tension, see a flip side expression !
For contemplation please.
