In a significant find, the epigraphy branch of the Archaeological Survey of India has discovered the earliest epigraphic evidence so far for the Saptamatrika cult. It is also the earliest Sanskrit inscription to have been discovered in South India as on date.

The report is datelined from Mysuru.

If anyone has access to the complete news report, please post it here.

Namaskaaram Mr. Subrahmanian,

When I accessed the above link earlier today, I was unable to read the entire article without a subscription.

Reportage of this find seems far lesser than the attention it (in my view) deserves and for those who might be interested, here is another source that provides atleast some information without requiring subscription.

Best,
Megh

PS: There is more than one word/usage in this that might seem problematic to some but sharing it is not an endorsement of everything in it.

Many thanks Megh, for this link that gives more information about the finding.  As to what extactly is contained in the inscription as text material would be interesting to know.
