Respected scholars,

I seek information regarding the availability of a work by Smt. R R Saroja on "Alankara--sudhanidhi of Sayanacharya - Critical Edn. and Study" (1963-65). I understand that this was the PhD thesis of the author, prepared under the guidance of Dr. V. Raghavan. I could not locate it on Shodhganga.

Further, I would be indebted for any information on (1) the publication of Alankara-sudhanidhi, (2) studies on the same, and (3) manuscripts of this text. I know of a manuscript available in the Oriental Research Institute, Mysore, written in Telugu characters.

Thank you.

With warm regards,
R. Ganesh

Dear sir,

Responding just because it appears there have been no other replies so far -- I could not find anything about the thesis, but this is what I could find (you may already know all this):

- Searching for this text on NCC gives the following:

alaṁk. attributed to Sāyaṇa, son of Māyaṇa, younger brother of [Page406-b] Mādhava and elder brother of Bhoganātha. Mysore I. p. 297 (4 mss.).

Illustrative verses here are in praise of Sāyaṇa, the author, and are the composition of Bhoganātha; they form a collection called Udāharaṇamālā; these verses refer to Sāyaṇa and Mādhava as ministers of Harihara I (1336-55 A. D.) and Bukka (1355-77 A. D.); refers to Sāyaṇa as having helped Bukka to capture Udayagiri and establish a kingdom there, as the minister of Kampaṇa I (1343-50) and minister and tutor of his son Saṁgama II (insc. 1353), as having taken part in wars with and defeated Sambuvarāja, and as a patron of scholars.

Other works of Bhoganātha are also q. here.

See Ind. Ant. 1916, pp. 22-24. The Alaṁk. sudhānidhi q. Viśveśvara's Camatkāracandrikā, the verse q. being a Cakrabandha mentioning King Śiṅgabhūpāla; it q. also the Rasārṇavasudhākara.

This is evidently the work q. by Kumārasvāmin and Appayya (Vṛttivārttika p. 19).

For a detailed critical study see D. C. Sarasvati, ABORI. Golden Jubilee Vol. pp. 253-82.

Could also find online the two sources mentioned above:
I have attached these two as PDFs for convenience. Hopefully others can help further.

Regards,

 Dear sir,

Searching for the text on Bharatiya Kriti Sampada, catalogue by National Mission for Manuscripts, could get the following entries.
Four manuscript entries of Alaṅkārasudhānidhiḥ by Sāyaṇācāryaḥ available at ORI, Mysore. One is in Grantha script and the other three are in Telugu script.
