Sorry to hear about your situation Steve. I hope things get better for you soon. I cant imagine what it must be like to feel ill and isolated.

I'm not sure if prayers work but I will keep you in my thoughts... for what that's worth

I had over 30 doctor’s appointments with various physicians last year and none of them know what’s going on …

The odd thing is that on good days I look so good … vigorous, vibrant and healthy … that they don’t even seem to believe how sick I am … I even went into therapy last year just to try and figure out why I can’t get anyone to believe me …

I had to cancel two trips out west to see my kids and grandkids because I was too sick to travel … and I have a feeling sometimes that I may never be well enough to travel again.

Hell … if my son Dominick didn’t call me every Sunday … as he has ever since I was released from the hospital after my heart attack in 2009 … the only people I would ever talk to are the check-out girls at the supermarket and the baristas at Starbucks …

It’s a little bit, in some small way I think, like being in solitary …

<> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <>

On the other hand … my spirits are good … I’m working as hard as possible on a bunch of stuff … and I keep telling myself that I’m getting better … looking forward to getting back in the gym … and hopefully, moving back out west at some point to be closer to the kids …

<> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <>

But in the meantime it’s just about all I can do to get through the day and keep myself fed and washed. I try to keep the kitchen bathroom sort of up to snuff … but otherwise I live in filth and squalor … and there isn’t much I can do about it … as the forest slowly encroaches in on me …

<> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <>

So if I feel well-enough to sit at my computer and get on FaceBook for at least some kind of discourse … well … that’s enough … it’s something anyway …

You never know what’s going on in peoples’ lives …

Very  sorry   to  hear  about your  condition. It sounds like you need a health advocate  to  press  for a  diagnosis. I had an undiagnosed  condition that   miraculously    went away -without   any  treatment.
I had   very good  doctors   , despite their inability to  find a  route causes. My neurologist   sent   test results and  blood samples  , MRI reports  to  the   Mayo  Clinic.  I'm  sure  you've   seen  specialists  affiliated  with Hospitals. Is there a Teaching Hospital   near you ? These are often the most   willing   and  capable  of  taking on  cases   others   wont .

Thank you, guys, for your kind words and offers of help … Ramon, Stephen, Joe, Paul … and I think you’re 100% correct, Joe, in that I need the services of a health-advocate. I’m going to try and be more proactive in getting the help I most certainly need.

In the meantime, one of our classmates has offered to drive up with his wife for a visit. This is all extremely difficult for me but I couldn’t possibly say no. I’ll try to keep everyone posted … but that’s all I can manage to say right now …

Had a very pleasant visit from one of our classmates and his wife in early October ... talked for quite awhile ... then went out for fish and chips ... rumor has it that another classmate might join us should we get together again ...

In the meantime I've had a few very good days and some very bad days ... can't tell if I'm getting better or worse but I think I'm getting better ...

Time will tell ...

Best to all ...

Steve,

Not to be a great wise sage, but I will tell you that what got me through the toughest times in my life was when I realized that I was not alone and the people around me would help. Not necessarily eliminate the basis of the conflict but more to act as a guidance system towards resolution. Take one day at a time and remember that we are here to help.

Update …

They finally figured out what was wrong with me after more than three years of being bed ridden and in agony … a Vitamin B-12 Deficiency … (of all things) … without which one’s bodily-functions don’t function very well … if at all …

That was in February … and I’ve spent the past few months doing everything I can to get my health back …

I just thought I’d post this update after I made some recent posts on FaceBook that made me look … well … if not completely healthy … at least a lot healthier than I claimed to be in my last post here …

Anyway … that’s the latest … thanks again for all the well wishes …

All the best …

Gluck …

B12!
Glad they found the problem and your Dre recovering . I am puzzled ; it’s a fairly common test , so why did it go undiagnosed for so long ?
Take care

I’m kind of glad you asked, Joe … I sometimes wonder myself why it took them so long to figure it out, but as far as I know … (and was told) … while a B-12 deficiency isn’t all that unusual, it’s not something they automatically test for … it requires a special, specific, B-12 test, and although I had a lot of blood-work done, not the B-12 test …

Also … the way B-12 deficiency symptoms are described at Web-MD, Mayo-Clinic, and other on-line sources, they don’t go anywhere near describing the agony I was in …

I’d been in the Emergency Room 4 or 5 times at least, but they kept releasing me, telling me over and over again that they couldn’t find anything wrong with me … ‘til the last time I called 911, when it took every ounce of strength, focus, and concentration for me to just get downstairs to the ambulance without passing out … and they finally admitted me …

They thought I had Leukemia, so they sent my bloodwork over to the Smilow Cancer Clinic where they figured it out … my red-blood cell count was at 6 … 13 is normal, and anything under 8 is critical … I don’t know what those numbers represent, exactly, but that’s what I was told … so they immediately gave me a transfusion and started the B-12 injections … first daily, then weekly, then monthly … now every three months …

Unfortunately, a B-12 deficiency can cause permanent neurological damage, which can have a kind of cascading effect and affect virtually everything else … so I still have most of the same symptoms, and I’m still in distress over one thing or another all the time, just not as severe …

S.

PS: Thanks, Paul … 😊 …
