Hi Everyone,

Looks like Sonoma has developed a leaking fuel tank.   I'm now in the planning stage of figuring out how to handle it.

Has anyone on the forum removed the a fuel tank from a 41.1 center cockpit model?  They are located under the master bunk in the aft cabin.  I'm really wondering if they will fit out of the aft hatch or through the galley to the companion way.

Any other advice or lessons learned would be appreciated as well.

My 1984 38.8 aluminum fuel tank developed pin hole leaks. I was surprised and  delighted to discover that the tank could be removed intact through a sail locker. The original tank manufacturer was even still in business after 30 years and was able to build an exact replacement.

Maybe you will be equally lucky.

I have a 43.3cc and had a similar issue.  Wound up cutting out the sole, just inside of the settees (2 pieces) to access the tanks.  After replacing both tanks we put in edge supports and a couple of short columns to support the inserts.  With plugs over the screws it's hardly noticeable.

While the sole is up, I'd recommend re- painting the bilge, and running new water lines.  Great access for a short period of time.
